Geology / History

Dumortierite was first described in 1881 for a deposit at Chaponost, in the Alps of France. It was named after the French paleontologist Eugene Dumortier (1803–1873). It typically occurs in boron rich pegmatites & high temperature aluminium rich regional metamorphic rocks.

This aluminium Boro-silicate mineral typically forms fibrous aggregates of slender Prismatic crystals. The crystals vary in colour from green, brown & blue to the less common violet & pink. The colour variations occur through the substitution of Iron & other elements for Aluminium.

Crystals exhibit pleochroism from red to blue to violet. It can also occur within a Quartz compound. The Dumortierite Quartz is blue coloured Quartz that contains inclusions of Dumortierite. For industrial purpose Dumortierite is used in the manufacturing of high grade porcelain.

Known localities of Dumortierite include France, Italy, Austria, Brazil, Canada, Madagascar, Namibia, Nevada, Norway, Poland, Russia & Sri Lanka.

Metaphysical Properties

A crystal of tranquility, calmness & inner peace. Balances energies maintaining peaceful communications, neutralising inner negative talk & diffusing potential arguments. This emotional stabiliser brings happy experiences soothing anger, stress & anxiety. Great for all communication as it stimulates the throat, third eye & crown chakras. Excellent for creating truthful, trusting & understanding relationships.

Dumortierite Expands & enhances the auric field boosting the bodies energetic connectivity. Activates dormant energy fields & increases the ability to tune into higher frequencies. Opens the light body providing connection to divine energies, angelic realms & the higher self. Enhances memory as well as the ability to understand & relay complex information. Encourages alternative intelligence, teaching us to expand the mind & look outside the box.

Can be very helpful with past life regression, soul retrieval & releasing trauma, giving a seamless reintegration of lost energies. This shapeshifting crystal supports, guides & protects when facing the shadow self, it keeps one pointed toward the light.

Gets to the root cause of emotional trigger points helping to restructure unwanted thought patterns &imparts the skills of adaptability with resilience. Silences the negative aspects of ego promoting free, fearless expression & creative flow.
